0201 - pantheress vs. lion

stacation has at least one big advantage - finally i find the time again to take pictures of our pets here in the yard. paulinchen, the white pantheress of our neighbours, is nicknamed burglar cat by us, because she is so interested in every corner of the yard that no opened door or window is secure from her invasion.

our lion like cat nila is actually fond of paulinchen although i make her look like roaring at anybody in the image above. just for the brief moment while she was yawning i had the possibility to portray her lion like. basically time is definitely one of the most important points if you want to shoot animals of any kind (pets are by far the easiest subjects for an animal photographer, of course) - at the best your time is unlimited.

1512 - in the commercial vortex

shortly before christmas we are completely caught up in the commercial vortex. in these days the corridors of the shopping malls are usually overcrowded, since everybody seems to guess that the human kind will starve during the holidays and so the people start to build up reserves again.

fortunately there is a brand new shopping mall in our village since a few weeks now. it's a pleasure to go shopping there, the corridors are wide and empty and you can easily breeze through the shelves. at least today.

have you ever thought about where we will be and how we will do in a couple of centuries? it's a crying shame how bad the humanity treats the wonderful blue planet. i don't know if i should be glad not to be in at the end of the earth or sad that probably any of my offspring has to face the music.

currently the earth is our plaything of life, anytime we will be the game balls of the last match at all for a long time.

today my mate andi and i picked up pace and used the prime late autumn weather for a bike ride in the setting sun after work. everything was bathed in an orange, warm light, what hid the fact that the temperatures had almost reached the freezing mark when we arrived home (not before darkness had almost completely approached) at 6pm after two hours of cycling.

it felt like we were supported by a permanent tailwind that escorted us on our way through the woods and fields. in fact this tailwind was the energising sun that refreshed our batteries and made us riding in the slipstream of euphoria.

as a present for tina's grandpa who had his 73rd birthday this thursday almost the whole family drove to crottendorf in the erzgebirge and visited the museum for the world-famous incense cones from this little village directly next to the border to the czechoslovakia. funnily all the visitors there get the opportunity to built their own, handmade old-style incense cones with odours of any kind.

our grandpa who has been a boxer and a welder in former times - in other words he has hands like a bear - had less problems with forming this little cones than i'd thought.

100 tons of these little cones are produced and shipped all over the world by the company each year. so round about 100 millions of cones leave the factory each twelve months. one behind the other the army of odour cones circuits the earth two and a half times at the equator. impressive, although these cones aren't handmade anymore, of course!

what a day! got up at 4am, drove to berlin, visited the opening ceremony of my second study at the beuth university, drove back towards homeland, but stopped in leipzig for the dynamite ska music festival and my brother-in-law's 18th birthday.
arrived at home at 2am, almost 24 hours and more than 800 kilometres lay behind me when I finally collapsed into bed.

10 bands entertained the diverse crowd of punks, hools, skins, rastas and ordinaries for more than 7 hours. at the latest at half past ten the most of them all were dancing at full tilt.

with today's pics i like to show you differently tilted views of the wonderful felsenkeller from last night.

dancing the skate seems to be easier than it really is. by all appearance you don't have to be keen on sports but at least relaxed and well balanced.

escaping from the depth of the space is not always successful but today it worked. after a lot of photographs with flash that do not satisfy me completely and a few shots against the light for working with the shadows we finally used the frontal light to get some images with a proper exposure, too.

reunion with the family after a long time is always a special event. everybody is excited, great food is served and old stories are told. and you realise that the next generation has finally taken command.

i'm looking forward to the next days here in our homeland, with marv and the rest of the gang.

fortunately the announced walimex pro fisheye lens has arrived already today in the afternoon. for the evening i'd planned to shoot a special scenery in bodman-ludwigshafen at the western end of lake constance. a friend of mine had told me of the presence of an example of a very special kind of "lake art" - every now and then a stone artist places stone towers at the lakeside that seen as a stress engineer could really never bear.

for the viewer they exude calm and balance, really adorable.

heading for the place where the work is located we met a nice guy who was feeding the ducks and seagulls. although he seemed to be a bit strange he's surely a very nice and sensitive guy who cares about the nature and its animals.

i'll write more about the walimex pro fisheye lens during the next days. in advance only a very short information: it touches simply wonderfully and seems to be built of very high quality.

furthermore my two today's samples show how differently a fisheye lens can be used. both the emphasis of the distorted fisheye character as well as the use as an almost normal ultra wide angle lens are imaginable.

already at 8am tina and i left the wonderful cottage in liguria. ten totally different days of holidays are now written in our small family history. hard to imagine that i have to go to work in two days again - anyhow some hours of resting are waiting for us.

when we finally arrived at home at 3pm my matriculation documents were already waiting for me in the pillar box. yes, you have this right - during the coming three years from now on i'll be a student again. my course computational engineering - that is provided by the beuth hochschule berlin - will proceed as different distance learning units. i'm very curious and will report every now and then from my study progress.

for now the last photograph from italy is about a very defining element of italian street life - simply everybody aged between 16 and 70 seems to own a scooter. funnily the scooters have the things on the streets firmly under control - they wiggle through all the blocked roads and thereby they scare one or two pedestrians and car drivers, too.
