as long as the weather will stay that grey and misty, our sweet kitty nila won't leave the flat very often. as a consequence we have to look after and play with her more often than usual. even so we are easily able to tap into her cuteness.

it's a good thing to share the flat with a kitty. whenever you are sick, the cat will befriend and care about you, if only by taking a nap on your stomach. although nila isn't resting on my body in the pic above, she basically acts as a great supporter in bringing me back to health.

stacation has at least one big advantage - finally i find the time again to take pictures of our pets here in the yard. paulinchen, the white pantheress of our neighbours, is nicknamed burglar cat by us, because she is so interested in every corner of the yard that no opened door or window is secure from her invasion.

our lion like cat nila is actually fond of paulinchen although i make her look like roaring at anybody in the image above. just for the brief moment while she was yawning i had the possibility to portray her lion like. basically time is definitely one of the most important points if you want to shoot animals of any kind (pets are by far the easiest subjects for an animal photographer, of course) - at the best your time is unlimited.

what is the date today? 23rd? of august? or september? it's unbelievable that we already have end of december and that we had masses of snow and more than ten degrees sub-zero only two weeks ago. today is the day, the day before christmas. almost 16 degrees, a warming sunset and a walk across fresh, humid meadows. we have to like it or lump it - i think kingston has already declared his opinion.

usually animals aren't able to talk. they use body language and noises for expression. you'd almost think that they master facial expressions, too.
the wonderful, sweet and cute kitty of our neighbours, paulinchen, seemed to get the needle when we were dressing her as a miner, apposite to the dark season of year. fun doesn't have to cost a lot of money.

today was packing day. tomorrow morning we'll sally towards italy. first we are going to spend a few days of hiking in the ortler alps and afterwards we'll regenerate while relaxing by the mediterranean sea in liguria. we both are thrilled to bits. we simply can't get enough of travelling.
at the beginning of the week we took temporary farewell of kingston, the dog of our neighbours. during a long walk in the sunset we got over the the first vacation stress. haha, of course there was no stress yet, but prevention is better than clemency. dog walking with kingston is a real pleasure - he is attentive, mostly on orders and a big funster. he's a great companion although only a temporary one for us.
if there is any internet connection almost two kilometres above sea level i'll report with the daily pic from south tirol tomorrow.

two minutes after she has left the flat she sits at the window again and mews for me to open it up. two minutes after i have left the yard she sits at the window and mews for me to open it up again. two minutes after she has got separated from me or tina she sits at the window and mews for anybody to open it up again... and so on and so forth.
again and again two minutes in her life, in which she always seems to remember the centre of her doing.

when you visit an european city you'd expect that free-roaming cats influence the townscape. thereby in sardinia pets aren't that high rated as the people do in germany. many cats have to run their own lives. funnily also the dogs do as they please. especially in alghero we often saw dogs walking on their own, there was no human being on view far and wide.
hopefully the lined lady of my pic will get along furthermore.

for our today's excursion we visited the monkey hill in salem. round about 200 barbary apes live in a mostly species-appropriate husbandry on an area of approximately 12 hectare in the forest in the middle of nowhere.
it was very interesting to observe the social structure of their hierarchy. the 200 monkeys are separated into three groups of 50 to 80 animals. each group has one male and one female chief. furthermore the whole population has a overall chief of each gender. at monkey hill the most important rule is to avoid any contact with the current babies. every monkey would protect these little newborns against any - in his opinion - negative influences. to sum up i can say that in many aspects barbary apes are very similar to human beings.
however evident similarities between yesterday's and today's subject are quite accidentally. ;-)

today it was a very sad day. we gave our first kitty zizou to tina's grandma. unfortunately we hadn't seen an other possibility to solve nila's suffer.
zizou, you are of a real character, gracious and unique. but you together with nila, that doesn't figure anymore. nila's doom vs. your move, these options were available. you would have chosen equally. what is exceedingly important to me: after almost six years of living together and that huge bunch of problems that we have mastered as a team you will be stored in our hearts forever. we hope that you know that we haven't betrayed you. :-(
please be always careful - after your infestation of fleas as a baby, your bad liver problems as a teeny and your accident with a car two years ago there are only four of seven lives left.
