no smoking

January 14, 2014

i saw this man sitting in his mercedes on the ferry late in the night. the reading light was highlighting his bald head and inviting me to portray him within the whole context. despite the very tricky conditions - the backlight was much brigther than the inner car - i decided to try to keep as much detail as possible in the important section of the image and set the exposure accordingly onto the person. knowing the capabilities of the nex7's sensor the resulting overexposed high key image was worth keeping and provided the basis for a reasonable post-processing in conclusion.

have a look at the "rauchen verboten" sign in the upper left corner and compare it to the original, not processed image.

lunar flame

January 08, 2014

olympia is not far off.

despite having not intensely dealt with the special historical issue of the chosen location sotschi yet, the political and human rights concerning reasons against russia as an appropriate host for an event like the olympic games seem to be strong enough to form a personal view on the current discussion in media...

so for me the usually in front of events like olympia exceedingly burning fire is a bit chilled at the moment; maybe somewhat like the rising moon's vibes, at least compared to an ordinary flame.

golden decay

January 05, 2014

after some days of usage and playing i come to the conclusion, that at least the hefty frame with all the actually distracting information will be banned for the most of the time here on the blog again. probably depending on the subject the sharpening routine might be used every now and then. additionally i decided to go one step further and remove the obligatory watermark to clean the image as much as possible...

sometimes a personal approach is unalterable and necessary to get your view on a thing.

unfortunately there is a high probability, that the regular walks with our neighbour's dog kingston will come to a soon end. for that reason please forgive me portraying my dear fellow again and again.

waiting for better weather... or finally some fish surfacing. it's too bad that i didn't get on my knees to let the birds sit on the horizon...

on this occasion and for the first time i'd like to test the appearance of the results from a new blog photo sharpening and resizing routine, which automatically generates multiply sharpened and resized jpgs with integrated titles and exif information directly from lightroom. the setup of the necessary tools is not that easy, but with a little computer knowledge and a concept of what you want to obtain from the perl-based scripts, the installation and configuration should be possible for the most people. if you are interested in more information, please follow this external link to the website of an (unfortunately german) mirrorless camera board: click. the tool does not replace the situational sharpening in lightroom, but makes for an appropriate preparation and rescaling of your images for the web presentation. i don't know yet, if i'll use it from now on, but at a first glance i'm taken by this solution.
