going by ferry at night is a mystic event for me. we've been already going by the night ferry home from constance when the 24 hours flea market took place and i was looking forward to today night especially because of the public transport and not only the primary event, the lake constance night festival [seenachtsfest].

as i've expected the festival itself wasn't the shit: there were too many drunken and aggressive people, who nosed forward their ways around the heavily overcrowded festival area. going to the toilet lasted at least about an hour for the ladies - simply unacceptable. anyhow the great fireworks made our day, it was really a great music supported light show that was provided by a two country cooperation and endured for almost an hour. for that reasons many photographers with huge tripods were present, too.

whereas i was already looking forward to the return journey again.

i don't know if you are informed of the special history of alghero - it is the only city in sardinia where catalan is spoken. this fact concerns with the circumstance that alghero was conquered by the catalans in 1354 and colonists from barcelona populated the city after the conquest.

even today alghero is called little barcelona, barceloneta or la picolla barcelona what is due to the similarities in their townscapes.

the port of villasimius radiated calm and rest. only a few anglers were engaged. the few boats were harboured. while the sun was setting, tina and i observed the tugboat that was reflecting the sun. favourite place!

pour oil into the fire

setup: sony nex 7 with sigma 30 f2.8 ex dn | 30mm | f4.0 | ISO100 | 1/400 | high contrast monochrome jpg ooc

my first day with the new equipment.

as expected i'm blown away. the nex 7 is simply incredible. there are so many customisable features that at the moment - after hours of usage - i still haven't completely realised which button triggers which special function.
regarding image quality there is no need of a discussion. 10mp of my borrowed eos vs. 24mp of the nex: forget everything you would expect of a compact camera about details and replace this with more than the twice - nex 7, here we go!

today i have already tested the sigma 30 f2.8 as well as the sony sel 50 f1.8, which is currently mounted to my new device while i'm sitting here next to two chattering ladies in a cozy restaurant in friedrichshafen and writing the draft of my posting on my cell phone. although i have a bunch of nice portraits of the two girls shot with the 50mm wide open resting on my sd card, today's pic is of a rough nature.

the fire bowl of our neighbours filled with a puddle of water, embellished with a little shovel, a little bit garden waste and a reflecting oil film that shows the detailed heavy clouds in the sky - believe me, the scenery wasn't made by me - and my new nex in combination with the sigma in ooc high contrast monochrome mode deserves my recognition.

so there is really no reason to proverbially proud oil into the fire.

an auditorium is a room built to enable an audience to hear and watch performances at venues such as theatres [source]. once i had arrived at the hospital today in the afternoon to pick up tina, before my very eyes such an theatre-like auditorium appeared.

a grizzled old, wheelchair-bound woman was giving a lecture on something. towards her four partial grizzled women that were resting on a wooden bench listened more or less carefully to the contributor. while i observed this scene i proposed myself a couple of questions:
is the woman on the left really listening to the contributor's pleading or is she watching the fountains dreamfully? what is the discussion about? do they realize my observation? is the dog owner feeling bored? or is he sitting too far away to hear the conversations of the grandmothers? at least the dog seems to be hungry. questions upon questions and no answers. create your own story.

contrary to expectations the weather yesterday was not only clear but rather the temperatures made a chill out at the lake possible. so we visited hagnau, a small, pretty village right beside the lake. the sun was really warming, the cappuccinos were delicious and our walk relaxing. finally tina and i had rested on the quay walls for about two hours, in the meantime i took some pictures.

i kind of like the gangplank pic, not only based on its clear and simple appeal but the fact that chilling out at the lake is currently barely possible anyway. as i said before starting in easter a great many tourists will raid the villages and towns at the lakeshore what unfortunately forces the locals to avoid these areas. but yesterday we were still able to enjoy one of the nicest places in germany in an abandoned state.

in the evening we drove to ravensburg where all stores and shops had opened until 11pm because of a special event, the long shopping night.

we returned not on the same day, so i had to discover my new installed lightroom 4 on sunday. anticipatory i can say that lightroom is a big improvement to rawtherapee. visit my flickr stream to see it for yourself.

a hard working day was followed by a great, atmospheric walk at lake constance. tina and i cut along the waterside until we arrived at one of my favourite memorials in germany - the war memorial in remembrance of the fallen troops of the world wars in the 20th century, named kriegerdenkmal meersburg.

while i was struggling with my tentative equipment through the last few days - birthday, where are you - today´s conditions where not really challenging for lenses and sensors. although the light shined a bit soft, this fact matched with the mood of this impressive place. again and again the clouds teared up for some seconds und let a bundled sunbeam pass their natural umbrella.

today i captured several good pics, so that i had to decide which one should be published on the blog. i picked this one, because i love its symmetry, simplicity and clarity. these three keywords exactly express the heart of the subtext that the monument conveys. it is unalterable, will survive longer than the humanity is able to look ahead and stands for the lives of thousands of men. may they rest in peace.

if you want to discover the memorial in detail, please visit my corresponding album on flickr.
