i did not touch my camera for almost one week. it was the first time since almost two years now, that i did not devote myself to photography for at least some minutes each day. at the beginning i felt curious, later in the week this feeling yielded the desire for more time and better conditions: these days i both leave for the office and arrive home after work in the dark. this is aggravated by the fact that days in november here at lake constance are usually characterised by grey, dull atmosphere and heavy fog near the ground. following this, i took the opportunity of today's cold and almost clear morning and got out of the dark, out of the man-made structures into the colourful environment of lake constance, at least for some invigorating minutes.
change(,) of course!
in consequence of upcoming bigger changes in my work-life balance a few, also bigger things will be changed here on the blog, too: within the last eighteen months this blog, which was initially set up just to document my learning process in terms of photography, has mutated into an emotional and very personal history log with an attached, nice little portfolio. photography has taken on an important role in my spare time since that point. although pure traffic and wide influence on the scene are not in the centre of my interest, a small, but respectable number of people seems to be firmly attracted by the shown content, since there are at least twenty to sometimes more than two hundred visitors per day here on the website.
as you might appreciate, the requirements on this project here have been redefined and massively extended by me in course of time: despite the current need to cut it fine, my photography shall be lifted onto a new, enhanced level; the next step is due now. although it is scarcely to be expected, that all shown images will be masterpieces from now on just because of my decision to change something, i want to encourage myself and everybody else to deal more intensely with the content. additionally after the wonderful phase of taking mainly nice and mostly beautiful photographs i think about leaving the current path and breaking (for me) new ground. to be honest, i don't know yet, what this intention means exactly. first and foremost there'll be an impact on the frequency of my publications: i probably won't be able to come out with more than one to three posts per week, if i want to devote myself to each dedicated topic.
i'm looking forward to this self-enforced change, that actually won*t be changing that much. and as always i'm going to report my thoughts. cu
marx's trails
had just 5min of stopping by the karl-marx-monument in chemnitz, the second biggest bust portrait in the world. despite the fact, that only the sphynx beats the size of this impressive, socialistic example of architecture, my mate martin seems to be able to shoulder the all the same magnificent and exaggerated sculpture.
hotel life
no daylight for me at the moment.
effect and perception
puddle images.
smoke
in the spotlight.
ride
too wet to go on foot.
parlour atmosphere
gesticulation, a very important way to underline your spoken words.
52mm wild goose
indeed, wild life photography with a 52mm full-frame equivalent is challenging: one has to go low, move slowly and act fast. follow these rules and you will get decent results of photographing any animals, even on a cemetery in the middle of a metropolis like hamburg. to make things even more difficult, i neither fed the geese nor cropped the image...
btw: if you are still not sure about the necessity of a well-executed post-processing - which imho is especially necessary in cases of working under hard conditions (shooting wide opened; foggy, dull scenery; both true today) - you might be interested in the look of the result out of camera; the jpg-file straight from raw, processed in lightroom without any tweaks. it's clearly visible, that not only the white balance is far off the reality, although i intentionally exposed the image to the right. in addition, i put another version, a black and white conversion aside, which for my taste turns up a bit too harsh.
cut riverbank
principally there haven't been many - relevant - changes here in hamburg during the last years. everything feels, as if we haven't been away for such a long time; we still feel at home with the urban environment.
