there are images that suggest thinking about different kinds of stories. with today's pic i could tell stories about seeing light at the end of the tunnel and so on. but i actually don't want to talk about such negative things although the dark clouds that are currently gathering here at work state something different.

i for one know that no matter what happens, if everything should collapse anytime there will be a fall back position at home at my girl's shoulder. so let's look ahead instead and marvel at the craftsman who was working in a sun-like, warm light all the afternoon. he was the only one who got out of the grey today and deservedly so because he is one of the men who get our corridors in pretty and neat order again.

have you ever thought about where we will be and how we will do in a couple of centuries? it's a crying shame how bad the humanity treats the wonderful blue planet. i don't know if i should be glad not to be in at the end of the earth or sad that probably any of my offspring has to face the music.

currently the earth is our plaything of life, anytime we will be the game balls of the last match at all for a long time.

long walks in the woods ease my mood. every time i go into the forest all the unnecessary information is erased and space for new activities is created.

in my case the recovery of energy from the indefinitely complex nature is tremendous, even if the lights are almost gone already. when the shadows gain the mastery over the whites, all the parts of nature put their shapes down and become softer and smoother. what a great sight!

you may agree with me that there are a few events in everyone's life that remain unforgettable. since i haven't the possibility to get treated in a vip box every weekend, a stadium attendance like today's will be surely held in my head for my whole life.

it was the second time that i watched a hockey match from this privileged point of view. what is sure is that the possibility to obtain only a standard ticket for the top match between cologne (2nd) and mannheim (1st) was vanishingly low, but the chance to get a vip ticket was definitely non-existent for relatively ordinary people like us. for that reason i'm all the more thankful for this event to our best friend jeen, who had invited us to mannheim.

whenever i pass the vineyard of bermatingen i remember the nice wine tasting with our neighbours in spring of 2012. considering that we live in a dedicated wine-growing region, tina and i drink really not a lot of the red or white juice of the grape. theoretically i'd enjoy working up a wine appetite at the local shop by nosing and tasting several sorts of wine.

if i'd only come home earlier more often.

i really don't want to be narcissistic or blow my own trumpet but i would actually count myself among the medium to high performer. despite that i sometimes think about closing my eyes, taking a longer time out and a breather, if only rarely in life. relaxation, muse, inaction. for many a long year.

no, not now and not here! later! you are young and especially during the next years you will be able to sop up everything easily. show iron will, studiousness and endurance and you will benefit from these years in not too distant future. bear in mind that time is sustainably measured only on a long term scale: everything consists of nature and will be merged in nature again.

during the cold season my racer is mostly parked in the bedroom. already in hamburg i'd convinced tina of the necessity to accommodate the gracile bike in a delightful surrounding - in this way one of my bicycles found its way into our bed chambers.

i've no clue why it struck my eye just today - i hadn't mind it since several weeks now. but when i entered the bedroom without switching the lamps on, it looked at me in the dark, only by the corridor lights illuminated environment as if it wants to claim more attention from me.

no fear, my darling, you are reserved for prime weather conditions. hopefully you are satisfiable with the starring of today's posting for now.

next birhday, next journey - today we drove to the carl-zeiss city jena to visit the planetarium with tina's father, who turned 47 this week. it was only the second or third time overall that i went to a planetarium. the appertaining facilities in jena and also the whole technical audio and video equipment was modernised during the last months and the outside of the astrodome is currently rebuilt to the historical, original condition by being painted in the same colours and decorated with the same pictures.

unfortunately today's image had to be underexposed by almost two stops because there was simply not more light emitted by the projector and i did not want to raise the iso value over 1600 to keep as much details as possible in the raw file and the shutter speed was with 1/15 already at the upper limit, too. consequently exposing any longer was also no option because the whole sky was spinning. so i had to push the highlights and whites during post processing, but by now i really don't know if the results wouldn't have been a bit better if i'd used 6400 and as a result exposed almost correctly.

whatever, despite my bleating the overall result is still pleasing. and of course the visit and the whole day were nice, too.

in recent months i'd to learn that lighting design has become an ordinary field of study by now. especially concerning the led headlights of the new volkswagen, audi and porsche i've to admit that these guys have done a really good job.

the expression of the new vw passat of my father frightens simply everybody who gets sight of him in the rear-vision mirror.

0511 - guitar hero

there are different possibilities to produce well exposed low light shots. one of them is to hold the camera steady and use the capabilities of the built-in stabiliser. if your skills are well developed, the subject isn't moving and you are fortunate you can get decent results. this method shouldn't be used when you desperately have to get a good result in a temporary and short candid scenery but it is the first choice if you need best quality, rejects are not a problem and time isn't limited. for the picture above i applied only a bit of noise reduction during post-processing. the sample is one of round about 30 attempts to shoot marv while he was playing a slow, relaxed song on his guitar.

setup: sony nex 7 with sel 50 f1.8 | 50mm | f1.8 | ISO12800 | 1/160 | silver efex pro for lightroom

contrary to the first one the black and white sample was shot with very, very high iso settings. i'd never touched such high iso ranges before, but now i've to say that it is really an option for me if the subject is suitable. the image above was post-processed in silver efex pro completely without any noise reduction and additional grain. due to the iso of 12800 i was able to shoot marv while he was rocking the guitar in the almost complete darkness. i think that it looks really great.
