as a present for tina's grandpa who had his 73rd birthday this thursday almost the whole family drove to crottendorf in the erzgebirge and visited the museum for the world-famous incense cones from this little village directly next to the border to the czechoslovakia. funnily all the visitors there get the opportunity to built their own, handmade old-style incense cones with odours of any kind.

our grandpa who has been a boxer and a welder in former times - in other words he has hands like a bear - had less problems with forming this little cones than i'd thought.

100 tons of these little cones are produced and shipped all over the world by the company each year. so round about 100 millions of cones leave the factory each twelve months. one behind the other the army of odour cones circuits the earth two and a half times at the equator. impressive, although these cones aren't handmade anymore, of course!

what a day! got up at 4am, drove to berlin, visited the opening ceremony of my second study at the beuth university, drove back towards homeland, but stopped in leipzig for the dynamite ska music festival and my brother-in-law's 18th birthday.
arrived at home at 2am, almost 24 hours and more than 800 kilometres lay behind me when I finally collapsed into bed.

10 bands entertained the diverse crowd of punks, hools, skins, rastas and ordinaries for more than 7 hours. at the latest at half past ten the most of them all were dancing at full tilt.

with today's pics i like to show you differently tilted views of the wonderful felsenkeller from last night.

have i ever told you that i really go for trees? i think so.

trees and humans share many things - both grow up in a couple of years, appear luscious in youth but develop their whole beauty not before middle age. there are different shapes, colours, sizes and origins of both of them. and both the trees and the humans wish for the sun and the warmth and suffer from darkness and cold.

only the mix of all of them (and us) makes for the pure beauty of our world. and i love how trees like the big one of my today's photograph set us humans in relations to unshakeable things on this planet.

there is no more time for me to waste - i have to blacken a lot of paper during the next years again. my study is finally on-going. dozens of lecture notes have to be read and dozens of scripts have to be implemented. i wonder how i'll manage all the stuff.

i want to apologise in advance for shorter texts with the daily posting - i've to shift my focus to the really important things. besides the most important points like the family the study will occupy the most of my time (besides work, of course). and instead of text i'll understandably concentrate on the photograph.

in today's pic you can see three sheets of paper on the reflecting cover of my laptop, illuminated by my desk lamp. they still gleam completely white but be sure - the blackening is not far off!

the architecture of the new barcelona remind me of the clear, contrasty and straight environment of gotham city. a lot of new towers were built during the last years mainly directly next to the sea.

the structures and shapes are really stunning whereas i don't like the basic implementation of the townscape design here in barcelona: contrary to for example manchester where all architecture styles are mixed throughout the whole city and this mix of old and new buildings is well-balanced, too, here in barcelona the styles are mainly separated per quarter. that's why as far as i can see the city and especially the new parts appear a bit sterile and misplanned.

nevertheless gothalona is worth the visit if you are a fan of modern shapes and patterns.

the main reason for my current trip to spain is the participation in the international march of the iml here in barcelona.

on two days, saturday and sunday, the walkers have to manage routes of different lengths and difficulties. my mate martin and i decided to choose the longest one (30 km) for today and 20 kilometres for tomorrow. today's walk should lead us to the great forests in the north of barcelona, whereas the route on sunday will guide us through the whole city with all its splendid sights. so the necessary variety during the walks of four to six hours is definitely given.

the weather forecasts predicted very cloudy and misty conditions what is basically not bad for a march. unfortunately there should be also a lot of rain. a spain walker told us that the current conditions with visibility ranges below 30 metres are very unusual for the region around barcelona. also because of that the humidity is currently far above the normal level i know from the iberian countries.

luckily there was no noticeable rain today. well, the heavy fog was omnipresent but even conducive for a great atmosphere while walking through the catalan woods. the predicted heavy rain showers will allegedly occur tomorrow, the related thunderstorms will already start in a few hours. a red weather warning was issued. hopefully it will be not that bad.

urban development is definitely a topic that i could have studied, too. for me it's very interesting to see and investigate the history and structure of cities and towns i visit.

i don't want to go into detail too much, the (german) wikipedia article about the placa reial is very detailed and profound. but one fact is worth to be called: antoni gaudi, one of the most famous architects of spain ever, (who had designed the sagrada familia, the most prominent building of barcelona, you might know it) has also projected the "sheltered lanterns" on this placa reial.

the square that is located next to the world-famous street ramblas, the square where our hotel is directly attached to and the square where we look down from our roof terrace. time to catch a breath and relax.

is this art or trash?

interesting fitment doesn't always have to be expensive. the interior (and of course also the food and the service) of the bar hatari in the schanzenviertel of hamburg is really attractive although it doesn't seem to be very luxury and high-cost.

a few days ago i've told you a restaurant that you should avoid please. today i'd like to recommend you one.

the restaurant a la turca in billstedt is the best turkish restaurant i know. you can get wonderful turkish food of all kinds there. the service is attentive and the prices are moderate. obligatory visit!

subsequent to a long travel you always have to evaluate a great many pictures. thereby sometimes a few ones attract your attention although they hadn't struck initially. today an image of a hurrying nun that is leaving the cathedral of porto venere caught my eye. in my opinion the harsh post-processing fits the moody scenery very well.

probably tomorrow or the day after a walimex / samyang / rokinon pro 8mm f2.8 fisheye lens will arrive for an extensive test during the coming days. for that reason i'm going to work especially with this very special lens  for now and according to that the next postings will be concerned with the apparently excellent little fisheye lens. i'm curious how the fisheye will match the nex 7.
