this week my stinchen turned 28. and this year we will reach 3333 joint days. without you i would be nothing. you teach me the things i don't preside over. be sure, i'm going to look out for you carefully.

clashing horns
a few weeks ago i stumbled upon google's nik collection discount: only 149$ for six pretty useful lightroom plug-in applications, srp actually round about 500$, that sounded too good. go for it!
today i'd like to show a first result, that was processed with the newer version of silver efex pro - i had used the predecessor for a while, too - and explain, with which workflow the shown sample, that was photographed today a few minutes on foot away from our home, was edited by me: firstly the import in lightroom, application of lens correction, convertion to tiff and transfer to sharpener pro 3 (part 1) for raw pre sharpening, in between buffering in lightroom, transfer to silver efex pro 2 and main editing, again fransfer to sharpener pro (part 2) for final output sharpening and finally export the image from lightroom to jpg. pooh, and all that with my good old laptop... i'm going to familiarise myself with the new software during the coming weeks and i will surely publish more samples.
cornet hopper
time has come: winter has finally gone here at lake constance, spring is bypassed and we'll fluently proceed to summer, hopefully. such being the case we indulged in the first ice cream today, although almost zero degrees made it harder for us to enjoy the refreshment.
following the joint
there are always two sides of the medal: unfortunately our time in the historic flat here at lake constance won't be everlasting, where the change will probably bring along a lot of new opportunities. so it's high time for me to document the characteristics of the more than 300 years old building more often now, before we will have to leave this place in the near future.
pool position
this is the kadewe, das kaufhaus des westens. it's one of berlin's symbols of prosperity and wealth. the store, that was firstly opened in 1907, passed through all the different periods of germany's diverse 20th century.
for the moment this will be the last but one posting about berlin: last but not least i'm currently working on a series about berlin's underground stations, that will be published in the near future.
nocturnal activity
between nightfall and daybreak, the time when i'm able to spend some hours with all the things that haven't anything to do with any kind of duties, i use the chance to wander about the winterly town and capture these particular moments on sd card.
i can't even begin to tell you how much i love the prospect of the towers at potsdam square in the west of berlin. once again i was reminded of the tremendous gotham city from the batman series.
the museum island of berlin is divided from the rest of the city by the river spree. in the gallery below i like to show you two different views along the river from one of the thirteen bridges across the island. the first one was captured with standard, the second sample with very high iso settings: i tried to obtain a shutter speed that was suitable for freezing the fluttering flakes of white grain.
scratching the (white) surface
as threatened yesterday i have to torment you mercilessly with images of this white, consolidated mass of water this week again - the forecasts predict nothing but winter. thereby i try to allot not more than a minor role to the still not escaped, meanwhile less strongly loved season and hope to cope with using its peculiarities as a stylistic device.
the german bundestag is the place of our government here in berlin. the shown, very cool and artistic building with a huge glass facade is one of the great many facilities that are occupied by parts of the governing parties and belongs to a vast complex of modern architecture in the middle of historic monuments besides the river spree.
there are a great number of things why i take to this photograph: the multifacetedness, the snow blower or the lonely soul in the middle of the frame, but i especially like the three-dimensionality of the picture - from the front with the blown snow flakes via the building with its diagonal stairs to the bridges and the crane in the reflection that had been located behind my point of view there are a lot of layers superimposed by each other.
state of flux
being almost 30 years present on this planet, nevertheless living a life that is still in a state of flux. that's how it should be. booked my first jump across the pond today, i'm so happy! in may tina and i will stay some days in nyc.
during the coming seven days i'll be away and additionally very busy, so please let me get away with shorter and / or delayed postings.
“stuttgart, berlin, get prepped for me. i’m coming.”
birthday ice
do you still remember cloud spotting? while i was just searching the web for some information about this dreamy, childish activity, i stumbled upon an pretty funny startup, that deals with exactly this topic. depending on how one looks at it, i took part in the (desired) community today, although i dealt with ice instead of condensate, so to say with another phase of matter:
i for one went in for ice spotting. on my way home from a late afternoon walk i had kicked the above-shown piece of ice already two to three times, before i noticed its special structure after all. well, i must admit, that the iced character is not quite self-explaining, but if you use your imagination in full strength, you might see a figure '1' (with a little kink). for me it wasn't a coincidence, that i discovered the '1' (okay, maybe i wanted to see it):
“today dybydy-phtgrphy has its first anniversary.”
yes, i'm a bit proud, but mainly amazed, how fast the time has gone. to be honest, there will be no dedicated flashbacks, summaries or canny answers at this place. therefor i'm far from being fed up with photography; additionally forward-looking seems to be more productive than summing things up every x steps. in my humble opinion my learning curve is still going up, on some points more, on some less. be sure, i'm going to work on my skills, with passion, fun and dedication.
at this point two more facts: although this blog is first of all a project of and especially for me, i want to thank each and every one of you, who reads, shares, comments on and delights in my images. almost 50k hits were counted during the last year... wow! and finally i want to renew my declaration of love to my camera: after more than ten months of daily usage, i can see, that
“for the present the sony nex 7 is my ideal daily companion.”
did you like the first year of dybydy-phtgrphy? and how about cloud spotting?
dark corner
at the moment i prepare for my trip to berlin next week. needless to say that besides the actual planning of the main - the day - activities, what is, of course, the most important and time-consuming issue of preparation this week, i already long for the dark side of berlin in my spare time.
let's see how many of the daily 24 hours will be left for wandering about the townscape. till then i delight in a so far not shown street shot from the dark suburbs of lisbon.
