today i finally decided to make the next small (fun-) step in my photographic life - before the production of 35mm film will be completely discontinued anytime, i'm going to have at least one try with analog photography even this spring. therefor i ordered one role ilford delta 3200 Professional (b+w), kodak portra 800 (colour) and fujifilm superia 1600 (colour) each.

why such sensitive films? well, i want to begin (and probably stay) with a ultra-compact fun cam, something like a diana mini or any other lomography camera, since it has to accompany me to music festivals and other chaotic events where the nex usually has no place in. naturally you have to use high iso films if you want to shoot these lomo cams (fixed plastic lens, (almost) fixed, slow f-stop - f8/f11 switch, fixed shutter speed - 1/60) at dusk. although i definitely expect not less than blurred, grainy, absolutely poor exposed results of my coming lomo cam, i'm able to look forward to work with film. expectations can only be belied if they are exaggerated. actually i have only one expectation: with at a max 36 images on a role you have to think long and hard about your composition, which is why i hope to improve my photographic skills further.

with the intention to give high iso film a try sometime, i avoided to apply noise reduction to my self portrait already today. what you see is my grainy face in the double window of our kitchen with the idyllic, nightly yard in winter dress in the background.

as stated elsewhere i've already expressed my surprise about the chosen colouration of the two new auxiliary buildings of friedrichshafen hospital and like to renew this statement: for whatever reason the medical centre for the resident doctors with attached psychiatry was designed in bright colours, whereas the also new mother-child centre is coated in olive. for me this is hardly to understand.

0102 - couch berry

a couch potato is characterised by sitting or remaining inactive for most of the day with little or no exercise [wikipedia]. it's not that tina would remind me of a potato, but more of a kind of sweet berry, of course. when you are not in the best of health, you may adapt your behaviours to the usual (german) unemployee.

3101 - fifth season of year

fifth season of year - sony nex 7 | sel50 f1.8 | f5.6 | ISO400 | 1/25

now time has come again. the fifth season of the year, like people say in germany for carnival, is dawning. all the coloured rags hang across the streets of the small towns and villages again. it won't be long until the party reachs our village bermatingen and instead of three kids on their way to school in the morning, a whole parade with more than 200 crazy, already drunken guys will march through the village. for me this hubbub is a pain in the a***, but of course i respect the people who conduct this tradition year after year. and sure, this too will pass, in the middle of february everything will be over again.

2901 - turning point

front row - sony nex 7 | sel50 f1.8 | f4.0 | ISO100 | 1/100

we seem to reach the turning point of winter: at the latest the day after tomorrow the cold of the last days will give way to the thaw and indeed temperatures above 10 degrees. therefor the seagulls had ensured that they would be able to enjoy the best view over the still icy lake at the säntis, the highest peak in the lake's alp panorama.

in a few hours when both the sun and the column of mercury will be rising again the ice and as a consequence also the dark shadows will suddenly disappear.

2501 - love

love - sony nex 7 | sel 50 f1.8 | f4.0 | ISO100 | 1/4000

love is something beautiful. if anybody hasn't ever felt love in any way that poor soul is definitely missing out on one of the most important things in life: receiving the warmth, feeling to be needed and showing behaviours that defy any explanation are only a few facts how and why love is able to drive you crazy. of course, i'm not talking about usual and simple everyday life situations but these rare, very special moments. although i don't know if the couple of my image is together since a week or a decade their wonderful kiss at sunset reminded me of one key factor for a successful relationship:

it should be everybody's utmost duty to maximise the number of these particular moments.

it's a good thing to share the flat with a kitty. whenever you are sick, the cat will befriend and care about you, if only by taking a nap on your stomach. although nila isn't resting on my body in the pic above, she basically acts as a great supporter in bringing me back to health.

in winter the ordinary street lamps receive temporary support by the incandescent christmas decoration. this makes for a cosy atmosphere, for example in the narrow alleys of historic towns like markdorf. if the moon additionally appears by back-lighting the clouds, your christmas feelings get into top gear again, despite being already on the home stretch.

2312 - happy late summer christmas

sony nex 7 with sel 50 f1.8 | f2.0 | ISO100 | 1/200

what is the date today? 23rd? of august? or september? it's unbelievable that we already have end of december and that we had masses of snow and more than ten degrees sub-zero only two weeks ago. today is the day, the day before christmas. almost 16 degrees, a warming sunset and a walk across fresh, humid meadows. we have to like it or lump it - i think kingston has already declared his opinion.

dear readers, i wish all of you cosy and pleasant christmas days. enjoy the free time and dedicate a dose of extra time to your beloved. they will thank you most sincerely with all of their attentiveness.
